Commander's Brew Episode 313 - Vadrik, Astral Archmage Izzet Zombies

Izzet spellslinger decks are a dime a dozen these days. Whether you're storming off with something or copying spells into oblivion, these decks are everywhere - so why not make yet another commander who cares about it? Well, WOTC thought this exact thing while coming up with the latest set for Magic: the Gathering.

So we have a tired old archetype and an uninspiring commander in - which means it's time to turn on the innovation jets. What ...

Commander's Brew Episode 307 - Volo, Guide to Monsters

is absolutely the Commander from AFR that I was most excited to build, not only because of my fondness for Simic Commanders but also because of his unique way of doubling up creatures. doesn't want any of the same creature types on the board or in our yard, he really is the anti-tribal Commander so in our deck, you'll find very few overlap when it comes to creature types.

So since we've got a ton of creatures ...

Commander's Brew Episode 304: Prosper, Tome-Bound

This week I'm joined by special guest-host Mike Carrozza and we wasted no time brewing up a sweet deck, utilizing all the different ways to exile cards and use the "impulse" draw mechanic to our advantage to create massive card advantage as well as massive amounts of treasures.

Since Prosper is sort of its own little engine, we are just augmenting the abilities already on this great card with things like , and or, rather .

Commander's Brew Episode 303: Oswald Fiddlebender

, aka Artifact is an exciting new card from the brand new Adventures in the Forgotten Realms DnD set. Not having had access to this effect before means there are tons of cool neat moves available to us for the first time in mono-White. Mainly, this deck wants to get a ton of value from sacrificing things like and jumping up the chain using cards like or . Soon enough your opponents are staring down a massive ...

Commander's Brew Episode 301 - Carth the Lion Planeswalker Reanimator

LOVES Golgari planeswalkers, so in this deck we try to cast as many as we can and win with the overwhelming advantage, card advantage and creature advantage they give us. But there's a different sort of spin on this deck in addition to the superfriends angle. Because of Carth's ability we're sacrificing or just using up our walkers, using planeswalker reanimator spells to get those high powered and high impact cards back onto the battlefield while also digging ...

Commander's Brew Episode 298 - Willowdusk, Essence Seer

is the face of the 2021 Witherbloom Commander Precon deck and quite frankly looked underwhelming to me when I first saw the card. I thought, "Another lifegain commander? Big deal." and sure, there is a version of this deck where all you do is gain life, and it's a very viable strategy. But why only do half of what this Commander does? Life loss is key to our brew today and it's incredibly powerful if we do it right.

Commander's Brew Episode 296 - Osgir the Reconstructor

is one of the more popular new commanders from the C21 precons and it looks like there is a very good reason for that. Essentially a graveyard reanimator deck, is much more versatile than he may seem upfront. Take this deck, for example, we work a lot of value into this one with great cards coming out of the graveyard and even ways to double that up using things like as well.

From the milling to ...

Commander's Brew Episode 295 - Tanazir Quandrix

is an enticing Commander because of the word "double" in its oracle text. Not to mention having the ability to make your other creatures mighty large even if they don't have any +1/+1 counters on them. We're either planning on getting in with a giant unblockable creature with a million counters on it or 's going to do the swinging while buffing the team to massive proportions. Still unblockable, ideally. And to protect the engine, we're running flash hexproof ...

Commander's Brew Episode 294 - Alibou, Ancient Witness

is part of this new wave of exciting and interesting new Boros commanders belonging to the Lorehold College of Strixhaven. Alibou wants you to have lots of artifact creatures and for them to either attack or just get tapped easily for their triggered ability. This makes so many different strategies viable from tribal synergies like Myr and Thopters to wacky tapping and untapping and copying abilities with . But for this version, we went with a lot of tokens ...

Commander's Brew Episode 293: Codie, Vociferous Codex

Codie is a weird little card with a pretty big drawback. That is, unless you don't cast your creatures and instead bring them all back using 's ability? Whaaaat?
The idea behind is a neat one, cycle your whole deck until you have a full graveyard of monstrous creatures like then reanimate them by casting a one mana spell, activating 's "Cascade" ability, then hitting our only 0 mana spell, . It can be a little easier said ...

Commander's Brew: Our Ten Most Exciting Cards from Strixhaven!

In the last two week's we've seen an absolute FLOOD of cards from WOTC surrounding Strixhaven, whether it be from the Strixhaven set proper, the C21 precons, or the very exciting Strixhaven Mystical Archive cards included in booster packs. It can feel like a definitely fun overload, so we're here to help you parse some of that out for your Commander brain to handle. First off, listen to/watch our Strixhaven set review and then pay special attention to the end ...

The 16 EDH Cards from Time Spiral Remastered we're most excited about - Commander's Brew Episode 287 - Time Spiral Set Review

With another greatest hits, all reprint set on the market now with Time Spiral Remastered, we Commander players are seeing a ton of great cards hit the market with all new and (mostly) cheaper prices. I've decided to lay out a few cards that EDH players will want to pay attention to because they either rarely get reprints or just because they're back in the spotlight for a second and they may be worth a second look for some of ...

Commander's Brew Episode 285 - Vega Populate Storm

When you start with a card-advantage Commander like you can really end up in any direction when it comes to the rest of your deck. You can use it as a way to support a control style deck or something about drawing cards or hand size, OR go a little more off on a tangent and just use the cantrip-ability as a support for something else. Something else that needs the support and wants to chain together multiple spells ...

Commander's Brew Episode 284: Kardur, Doomscourge

Although it doesn't say so, goads the table upon his entering the battlefield. I don't need to tell other Commander players how fun Goading your opponents is. Naturally, this deck wants Kardur to hit the battlefield over and over. Rather than have him ever visit the Command Zone once he leaves, we're going to get him into combat, let him die, and reanimate him over and over. And if attacking with him proves too difficult because all of our ...

Commander's Brew Episode 283: Svella's Song of Snow & Fire

This week's deck does a couple of weird things with a really fun new Commander from Kaldheim, . Usually, if we're talking Gruul ramp, it's not typically of the artifact persuasion. And if we're ramping in Gruul you can generally bet on the fact that that mana will be used to cast some gigantic creatures and smash some face with them. Not this deck, oh no, this deck uses one of the all-time most flavourful Magic mechanics, paying one red ...

Commander's Brew Episode 282: Kaldheim Set Review - The 20 Kaldheim Commander Cards you NEED to Have

The world isn't what it used to be. The Raptors play in Florida now, I'm now MORE comfortable wearing a surgical face mask pretty much everywhere and Wizards of the Coast definitely creates cards in their main sets for Commander players. Two out three of those things are weird and kind of suck for their own reasons and one of those things is totally awesome and we should all be happy about it. (The answer is easy if you do ...

Commander's Brew Episode 280: Halana & Sengir Deathtouchers

In our last (for a while at least) Partner Commander episode celebrating Commander Legends, this week we brewed up a deathtouching punchy reanimating Golgari stew that I can't wait to play on stream sometime soon.
When I cracked a pack of CMR and found I was excited to finally have the of the Command Zone in my possession. After doing some looking around our Commander's Brew patrons and I decided to mix her in with some Deathtouch creatures ...

Commander's Brew Episode 279: Toggo and the Time Travelling Artifacts

The first invention that all of our technology stems from can be traced back to a simple rock. , therefore, is the multiverse's first scientist! This deck seeks to make as many rocks as possible, but we want to advance them by using them to improvise out other spells, tap to draw cards, or even transform into an army of Myrs to defeat our opponents. Anything but a regular rock. And the ultimate technological advancement? Taking extra turns in order to play additional ...

Commander's Brew Episode 278: Ardenn & Sakashima

This week's deck features two unique partner commanders in and , and what we do with this deck is equally unique. The focus of this one is getting out a bunch of type auras and effects to take creatures. We can use Ardenn along the way to move the auras around to better creatures if we like but eventually, we use those creatures and Sakashima to turn them all into some big scary legendary creature using a duplicating ...

Commander's Brew Episode 277 - Belbe, Corrupted Observer

, from the new Commander Legends set, promises us a ton of extra colourless mana in a multiplayer game. We brewed this deck up assuming a four-player game, so with many of our one-mana ways to have each opponent lose 1 life (or perhaps even free in an attack trigger) we can net a "free" six mana most turns. What better way to spend colourless mana than on a big artifact, like or ? The curve on this deck ...

Commander's Brew Episode 275 - Krark and Kydele: Partner Commanders

It should be no surprise that with the hundreds of new partner Commander options, that's what I'm brewing around! The partners for this Temur deck are and . But Krark's the headliner here. We've got tons of 1cmc cantrips and cards that give us stuff, mainly tokens, any time we merely cast a spell, so if Krark returns the spell to our hand, we're fine with that! And the secret chewy middle of this deck is . Plenty of ...

Commander's Brew Episode 274 - Livio Mardu Sneak & Blink

This week's deck brings together two unlikely partner commanders for the sake of creating a very cheaty experience that I think everyone will love.
Basically we have a deck here where ideally you will never pay full price for your creatures and be able to benefit from their abilities several times over the course of a game. Mardu isn't the first colour-combo we think of when blinking creatures comes to mind, but the fact that we have access to in ...

Commanders Brew Episode 272 - Araumi of the Dead Tide Dimir Allies

With so many exciting Commanders to choose from in Commander Legends who woulda guessed that the uncommon Dimir merfolk would be by far the best? Well by far might be a stretch and best is certainly subjective but the point is [/c]Araumi of the Dead Tide[/c] is a really great Commander and super fun to play. With multiple "Encore" styles to brew around this is no run-of-the-mill reanimation deck. No, this deck can lean on ETB abilities, attack triggers, sacrifice ...

Commander's Brew Episode 269: Moraug, Fury of Akoum

The Commander world is about to bust open with a zillion new eligible Commanders from Commander Legends, but before we dive in, we wanted to make sure we got in one more Commander that came out in Zendikar Rising, and that Commander is !

Obviously, wants to hit landfall triggers and attack for repeated combat steps. This deck's plan seeks to do that, but specifically, we're aiming for a "surprise" kill against one (or more) of our opponents by ...

Commander's Brew Episode 268: Magic: The Bachelorette

Magic has had a rough few weeks, with bans announced more often than new coronavirus measures and a dubious partnership that just about split the Commander community in half. Since we've seen such turmoil it looks like it's up to your old pals at Commander's Brew to mend the broken ties that bind our wonderful game together and what better to achieve this, than a... THEME DECK!
Look I get it if this one get's lost on you but I ...

Commander's Brew Episode 267: Tazri, Beacon of Evil

The Party mechanic introduced in Zendikar Rising is meant to remind us of a Dungeons and Dragons campaign, where our party is assembled and goes on various adventures. This deck is inspired by the foils of our heroes! It's a Grixis deck full of evil wizards, clerics, rogues, and warriors, and it's led by . Evil Unity, that is! You'll notice that this deck comes in at over 100 cards, and that's because some of the larger, meaner, splashier cards are meant ...

Commander's Brew Episode 266: Volrath Mutates

Mutate is the pesky little mechanic that at first blush seemed overly parasitic, but because of its rules interactions and unique slant on creatures, I just can't get it out of my head. Thus, when it came time to brew the deck this week, my first thought was about the new interaction in Standard featuring and Mutate creatures. Basically you Mutate onto a and all of a sudden once you hit six lands, your land drops now make ...

Commander's Brew Episode 265: Linvala, Shield of Sea Gate

What do you think of when you think of an Azorius deck? Control, counterspells, wraths on wraths. Not being able to really play the game you want to play. Well here's an Azorius deck that is the opposite! We're aiming to be a beatdown deck, led by the new .

We're frankly ignoring her Party text, but we're leaning on her ability to protect a team of powerful attackers! We always knew White as a ...

Commander's Brew Episode 264: Verazol, the Split Current

This week's deck is all about the classic Kicker mechanic and taking advantage of some templating/rules we're seeing for the first time in Zendikar Rising. If you're like me you took a look at , and thought: "How many Kicker instant and sorceries worth playing in EDH could there possibly be?". The answer is, not that many. But thanks to that new mechanic, actually allows you to copy ANY spell. Meaning that permanent spells on the stack can get ...

Commander's Brew Episode 263 - The 25 Most Exciting Commander Cards from Zendikar Rising

Looks like we're back among the floating hedrons and cereal bowl "islands" once again with Zendikar Rising, and like previous Zendikar sets you have to do a little exploring to really find the Commander treasure in these lands.

I say lands because quite literally some of the best cards in this set are also lands. The Modal Dual-Faced Cards (henceforth known as MDFC's ) are the true stars of this set, providing subtle advantaged to the deck ...

Commander's Brew Episode 262 - Grixis Noncombat Damage

Hot take: Creatures were meant to do damage! If you look at recently printed cards, specifically creatures that have some sort of triggered effect whenever they do damage, the templating has been very specific to mention "combat damage". But if you go back far enough, they weren't designing cards while thinking of all the different ways you could get a creature to do damage outside of combat. That's what we're focusing on in this deck.

Commander's Brew Episode 261 - Random Wish Board

What if we not only allowed wish boards but what if the cards you got from those wish boards were completely random? Do we try to recreate that random card mechanic popular in digital card games in our own paper Commander?

As long as your playgroup is cool with you using "Rule Zero" to utilize a wish board, you can have a lot of fun with this deck. In this list, you'll find all the cards ...

Commander's Brew Episode 259: Mardu Citadel

This week I've been playing a lot of the Jund Citadel decks in Historic and it's been so much fun that I've been inspired to recreate some of the same neat moves in this week's Commander deck.

Unlike its Historic cousin, this deck uses a lot of damage prevention and redirection as well as the paying life effects like has. So gaining life and preventing the damage in the first place is a real focus ...

Commander's Brew Episode 258 - Elsha of the Infinite Combos

The inspiration for this deck is those Russian dolls. You know, the ones where there's a little doll inside another doll, inside another doll? You get the picture. This Jeskai deck, led by , has us putting our creatures "inside" of other creatures so that if anything happens to them, we get our original creature back!

The potential to chain together a few creatures is very high, and one of the ways we can win is to get a ...

Commander's Brew Episode 257 - 5-Colour Secret Karrthus

Five-colour secret is a wild idea for a Commander deck and it's not for the faint of heart. If you want the full lowdown on this deck I really suggest you listen to this week's episode because there's a LOT to set up with this deck, but if you can make it happen I think you'll be very pleased.

The basic moves of the deck involve getting your mana settled ( helps with that) then tutoring ...

Commander's Brew Episode 256: Kathril, Aspect Warper

The latest Commander precons gives us . You might expect us to try to fill up our graveyard with all the different keywords and then voltron up, right? Then you don't know us very well! We're going to mostly focus on a couple keywords. Deathtouch and Indestructibility. Sure, a couple of extra keywords might slip in there, but if we're able to attack (or sit back and defend) with deathtouching indestructible creatures, we'll have a pretty dominant board position. ...

Commander's Brew Episode 255: Neyith of the Dire hunt

The new Jumpstart product has some very fun new commanders in it, but none are more exciting to me than . I love it when a new legendary is printed and it instantly makes a bunch of limited chaff playable in our format. Get all your fight cards out from your long boxes and sleeve em up because you're about to draw a ton of cards with and this list of giant beaters.
So obviously fighting is a big ...

Commander's Brew Episode 253: Akim, the Soaring Wind

might look like a lot of Jeskai Commanders we've seen over recent years, but actually this bird dino gives us a lot of leeways when building and brewing up a deck with an interesting twist, quite unlike the Jeskai brews we've seen. Should we build around flyers, go bird tribal or maybe just rely on big tokens having double strike? Either way, we go we know we are making tokens but you may be surprised at the multiple layers ...

Commander's brew Episode 251 - The 40 Most Exciting Core Set 2021 Commander Cards

Core Set 2021 is easily one of the best sets we've seen for Commander in a while. The number of great reprints plus generally useful spells has all of us jazzed about getting these cards into our decks ASAP.

Sure we didn't see a ton of multicolour Commanders in M21, but we did get a pretty sweet box topper in . and give us some interesting takes on familiar themes. The mono-coloured legends are even ...

Commander's Brew Episode 250 - Sharuum the Hegemon Counters

This deck started out, and even currently is, a bit of a very fun and potentially powerful durdely mess. That's not to say this is a bad deck, it's just to say that if you like a hint of chaos (not the Red EDH deck kind, just the normal kind) you'll love this deck. Also, contrary to what I say in this week's episode, this deck definitely does contain some infinite combos. Namely, the kind where you're tossing counters on ...

Commander's Brew Episode 249 - Kalamax's Eleven

The best part of any heist movie is when they put the team together. For this deck,  is the Danny Ocean of the deck and the goal is to assemble a team of Eleven creatures, that together, will take care of the whole table. We've got ways of making sure the creatures stay in the library also, so we can them out all at once. copying instants really pushes our development into high gear, and with all ...

Commander's Brew Episode 248 - Nethroi Zeroes to Heroes

Our latest in the series of Mutate Commanders that buck the trend of being a parasitic mechanic is . In this deck, Nethroi acts as a 7 mana reanimate everything in your graveyard spell because of our massive number of creatures (over 40) and the fact that most of them are 0/0s that enter the battlefield with +1/+1 counters on them. Of course, this means that Nethroi sees them in the yard as zero power and therefore can bring them ...

Commander's Brew Episode 247 - Vadrok, Apex of Thunder

Ikoria gave us a cycle of legendary creatures with a Mutate ability on them, and we set out to see if we could still use that to our advantage, without adding all the eligible Mutate cards to the deck. Because, frankly, a lot of the Mutate cards aren't that flashy in a game of Commander.
We took the Jeskai legendary, , and aim to Mutate it onto some sort of small (likely artifact) creature. For our "free spell" we ...

Commander's Brew Episode 246 - Winota, Joiner of Forces

I'll just say this to start: is one of the most explosive decks I've ever seen in Commander on the fun, casual side of things. Obviously there are a lot more high powered fast combo type things going on in cEDH, but brings a true overwhelming tide of free creatures to a much-maligned guild that has been getting a lot of love from WOTC over the past few sets.
seems both crazy good and underwhelming at first ...

Commander's Brew Episode 245 - Ayli & Lurrus

You've no doubt heard about all sorts of formats getting on the Companion train, and Commander's Brew is not above it! In fact, we put together a deck using one of the Companions that seemed tougher to brew around - .
This deck obviously has to be full of permanents of CMC 2 or less, which plays quite nicely into an aristocrats theme, led by ! And we've got plenty of ways of recurring if they end up in the ...

Commander's Brew Episode 244 - Haldan & Pako

This year's Commander precons are exceptionally spicy with a ton of great mechanics, most exciting of all, new partners! Now they may not have been exactly the style of partners we wanted, but a partner is a partner! If you like big Temur spells, and are THE new Commanders for you.
I love it when an EDH deck seems to work against itself - attacking with a big dog but also running almost all non-creature spells with big ...

Commander's Brew Episode 242 - Gruul Lands

How do you like your steak done? If you like medium beef, this is the decklist for you!
It's a Gruul deck that wants to ramp the hard way led by Mina and Denn as the Commander. We're all about playing two or more lands per turn. To make sure we never run out of gas, we're also planning on drawing a few cards per turn when creatures come into play to keep the engine running. And if that weren't ...

The 30 Most Exciting NEW Cards from Commander 2020

This week on Commander's Brew we reviewed all the most exciting new and reprinted cards from the 2020 Commander precons. Here, for you, I've broken down 30 of the new cards that I'm most excited about getting in my greasy little palms. Sure I could basically list all the legendary creatures, and because of the returning "Partner with" mechanic there are a bunch of them, but I wanted to highlight more non-legendaries as these are the cards we can more ...

Commander's Brew Episode 240 - Slow Infect

To paraphrase Eli Cash, Everyone says you need to be super aggressive if you want Infect to work in Commander. But what this deck presupposes is... maybe you don't?
This deck smashes the super aggressive Infect mechanic together with the ultra laid back and terribly annoying strategy of pillow fort, creating a new type of deck: Slow Infect. Do you like playing archenemy? I hope so, because every time you play this deck, that's what the game will be. If ...

Commander's Brew Episode 239 - Jund Zombies

There's no shortage of zombie decks out there, but I think a Jund zombie deck is on the rarer side. How did we come up with this one? Fast zombies! All those other Commander decks are filled with those regular old slow zombies, but this deck is all about the fast ones. They probably scream instead of moan also.
Most of our zombies come from non-creature cards that generate zombie tokens, and the few actual creature cards we run are ...

Commander's Brew Episode 238 - Spy Kit: The Deck

This week we brewed around a super unique card, . It gives anything it's attached to the names of every other non-legendary creature in Magic. Ever since I first saw this card in Conspiracy 2, I've had it on my mind for Commander. But how best to use it? Don't bother with EDHRec, we've got the most interesting and effective brew right here!

Commander's Brew Episode 237 - Don't Forget to Eat Your Vegetables!

When we prepare a meal, often the vegetables are the boring part that gets very little glory. Sometimes we even leave them out (guilty). Brewing up a deck is no different. The veggies are the draw, the ramp, the removal. But we too often default to the same cards. The plain broccoli.
This Esper deck sets out to break the mold and make a meal out of the veggies! We've looked for the more interesting removal and draw spells that ...

Commander's Brew Episode 236 - Karador Feeds the Pack

This week's deck is an Abzan deck built to take advantage of the wolf-making enchantment . We want to sac our big creatures to create a board full of wolves and maybe even get a few Garruk activations in for good measure. A super fun graveyard/token build that can win a few different ways, you'll have a blast playing with this medium-powered version of , which will probably be a nice change for your meta who may be used ...

Commander's Brew Episode 235 - Mairsil Energy!

We wanted to take in a new direction, and as we were looking for abilities he could copy we stumbled upon quite a few energy options. So, we ended up brewing a mix between an energy deck and an artifact token support sub-theme. There are lots of directions to take this with this deck as you play it, so keep an open mind to the different lines available. Will we cage up some token making creatures and swarm our ...

Commander's Brew Episode 234 - Gallia of the Endless Dance

This week we brewed around one of the more unique multicoloured commanders from the new Theros Beyond Death set, . Purposefully avoiding Satyr tribal, we decided to go with taking advantage of the attacking and draw triggers generates. Gruul gives us plenty of token making options while green gives us a lot of great recursion for those cards we end up discarding randomly early in the game. This deck is pretty aggressive but could probably even afford to be ...

Commander's Brew Episode 233 – Warping the World

There is surely a lot of controversy over as a card and whether or not people should play it. So, for this deck, we're not going to tell anyone!
On the surface, we're a Korvold deck that aims to sac permanents we've already gotten value from while getting more permanents than our opponents. Then, when they least expect it, we'll Warp the World! Even if there's an opponent who still has a decent board out there, our deck ...

Commander's Brew Episode 232 - Meren & the Discarding 4 Drops

No, this is not the latest indie band to hit the cool music scene of your city, its the latest episode of THE BREW! I've been looking for an unorthodox Meren deck for a long time and thanks to the help of our amazing Patrons in our Discord we have found one! This is not your grandfather's Meren deck! It's mine. I already told you that. This deck revolves around and it's unique ability, Transfigure to use a host ...

Commander's Brew Ep 230 - Mana Rock Tribal

I love a deck that can attack at multiple angles. I also love a deck that doesn't sound like it could possibly be a real deck. This Mana Rock Tribal deck does both of those things and it's a blast to play on top of it. Whether you're animating your mana producing artifacts to actually kill your opponents in combat or you're utilizing all that colourless mana to cast a massive, game-ending X spell, your opponents won't see it coming. ...

Commander's Brew Episode 229 - The One Dollar Store

Hey Gang, Sean here!
This deck is about getting a few pingers out first (Creatures that can deal one damage anywhere). Meanwhile, we're reducing the cost of spells (so that they cost one, get it?) and eventually stacking damage-doublers until we can end our opponents with a couple of damage sources, ideally copied by ONE !
You can check out the podcast this decklist came from over at our website!

Commander's Brew Episode 228 - 30 Must-Have EDH Cards from Theros Beyond Death

Like it's predecessor of the same plane, Theros Beyond Death is a Magic set with plenty to offer Commander players, and not just players looking to play enchantment spells, either. Whether it's reanimator, graveyard hate, some new X spells, new commanders, self mill, INSANE mana ramp and, yes enchantment decks, Theros has a little something for everyone. If you listen to our set review this week you'll hear our takes on all the EDH relevant cards but in case you ...

Commander's Brew - Our Favourite Cards of 2019!

This week on Commander's Brew we took a look back at the year that was 2019 withour annual Creamdown episode. That means there's no deck to speak of! However we've got an amazing list of cards you need to look into from the past year! Here we have our absolute favourite 60 Commander cards from the past year. Some of these were our preview cards, so we're obviously biased in that respect. But mostly these are just the cards that ...

Commander's Brew Episode 224 - Teysa Karlov Recycling

is easily the best death trigger commander. Given the recycling ability of Orzhov's colours, this deck really gets work done FAST. Not just happy to sit back on a bunch of cool death triggers? This version of Teysa is looking to go big for one massive "storm" turn. We "storm" off a bunch of our creatures mixed with some of the recycling spells to get crazy value from token makers like and card draw creatures like . This ...

Commander's Brew Episode 223 - Nonbasic.deck

For this deck, we asked ourselves the question: Can a deck work without any nonbasic lands?
We think yes! helms this deck with lots of simple green sorceries to tutor up basic lands, so we can always get the ball rolling without difficulty. Don't forget about all the extra mana Radha makes us! If that isn't enough, we're going to animate our lands to generate even more mana. Or we can just win with combat damage (if you're boring)!

Commander's Brew Episode 222 - Casualties of a Thousand Year Storm

Sometimes a deck starts with a dream. Sometimes that dream is an impossible fever dream that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Welcome to Casualties of a Thousand Year Storm. This deck is trying to cast Casualties of War as many times as possible. THEN, figure out how to win.  NOT for competitive metas. DEFINITELY for people who love ridiculous fun. In theory, this deck SHOULD be tweaked with and upgraded as you see fit for your collection/meta, but this is ...

Commander's Brew Episode 221 - Niv-Mizzet Reborn

Restrictions breed creativity, and has a built-in restriction in that it asks us to use as many guild-coloured spells as possible, to maximize his trigger upon entering the battlefield. Sean decided to go even further and brew up a deck that's primarily Abzan. That's right, we're "dropping" Niv's main colours! The Abzan core of the deck is a recursion-based package with lots of value, but we still get to take advantage of Niv's draw triggers by including colours that are ...

Commander's Brew Episode 220 - HapPODly Ever After

This deck started with the idea of using but then quickly escalated into a Bant deck that needs all 5 colours of permanents to win with . All I can say is this deck is a lot of fun to play and will most likely catch your opponents off-guard the first time you play it. Not all players like alternate win cons, but you have to put so much work into this one, I promise you they won't have ...

Commander's Brew Episode 219 - Chainer, Nightmare Adept

Syr Konrad is definitely a potential Commander with a powerful ability. But what happens if we get even greedier? So, Sean came up with this deck using Chainer, Nightmare adept as the Commander. That way, we can self-mill ourselves and still have no trouble finding the Eldraine Knight! Then we can cast him and set up our winning turn! Plus, most of our early action will be filling up our yard. Chainer can help us get a bunch of dorky ...

Commander's Brew Episode 218 - Selesnya Angels

This deck was originally meant to be Lyra Dawnbringer to showcase the great synergy and power of angels. Since mono white still lacks a lot of the basic things you need from a Commander deck, we had to add Green. Mono white can't draw cards or ramp, but green gets to do both!
Shalai adds a lot of protection once you get a board of angels going, which is easy to do with all the token making. Given that white ...

Commanders Brew Episode 217 - Vigilance the Deck!

Don't you hate having a great creature that could attack one player really effectively, but you can't because that would leave you wide open for a counterattack? That's what Vigilance is for! Here's the deck we chatted about in our podcast episode 217. It's all about Vigilance!

Enjoy casting monstrous creatures and giving them all vigilance. Heck, we'll even share other keywords among the team, so that we can attack whichever opponent we want to without fear of what ...

Commanders Brew Episode 216 - Golos & the Legendary Artifacts

This deck started off as a straight up legendary tribal deck. But I've already seen and built that kind of deck before. So, I started looking into the idea of just jamming a bunch of Legendary Artifacts. And guess what? It turns out it is a ton of fun and quite powerful to boot! You might want to add a few more draw sources to this and upgrade some of the mana base, but generally speaking I've found this to ...

Commander's Brew Ep 215 - 4 Color "Grixis" Brudiclad

This week's deck is all about , and digging for a special way to win a game. We're looking to use Brudiclad's  ability to copy tokens to make a board full of and gain all the life and "50" our opponents all at once. But we're Grixis for more wheels and utility, and also splashing white because what deck wants treasure tokens but doesn't run ?

Commander's Brew - Clone, Copy & Borrow - 214

Hey Everyone, Andy here with a new decklist!
Cloning, copying and borrowing is all about mimicking the best stuff on the table but not drawing too much heat for it. Usually in these types of decks stealing is also included. But I noticed that people HATE that. So, instead we will "borrow" things from our opponents' libraries! They haven't invested any resources into these things yet so it's not really stealing and I guess they get it all back at ...

Commander's Brew - Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero

brings a new flavour that Boros hasn't ever had before: Decent recursion!
This week, Sean brews up a list aiming to take advantage of all sorts of creatures that can enter the battlefield for real benefits, including an Ally package! Throw in some artifacts we can sacrifice for value, and a couple ways to loop Gerrard back into play from the graveyard and we can be a bit of a combo deck as well!

Commander's Brew - Elsha of the Infinite

Hey everyone,
Elsha takes advantage of creating numerous tokens at instant speed to surprise your opponents with a massive attack out of nowhere. A classic Jeskai spells deck, this Elsha list plays a little differently in that most of our spells will create or buff creatures in addition to drawing us cards and countering spells. Comfortable on the attack or defense, this deck is a ton of fun to play no matter your opponent!

Commander's Brew - Greven, Predator Captain

Hello everyone,
It's Andy here with the latest deck from Commander's Brew. For a more detailed discussion on the deck, check out our podcast, episode 210!
Greven is a amazing "one punch" style commander that can end games quickly. You'll want to be paying life to pump Greven while giving him double strike or lifelink to kill with commander damage. You can also opt to pay almost all of your life and then switch life totals with someone before a ...

Commander's Brew - Marisi, Breaker of the Coil

Hi Gang,
Here's the latest deck from Commander's Brew. For a more detailed discussion on the deck, check out our podcast, episode 209!
Marisi finally brings the Goad mechanic to the forefront, and boy, does this deck take advantage of it! The core of the deck has us running smaller creatures that are really hard to block, either because they have some sort of landwalk or even better, shadow. Once we can get players goaded, they ought to be easy to ...
