Daily Dose of Kaldheim #11 – It’s time to go Berserk

Welcome, all to the Daily Dose of Kaldheim. Today is going to be a little berserk around here thanks to Berserker spells being a strong sub-theme in Kaldheim. When I think of Berserkers, I think of attacking and being aggressive and pressuring your opponent.  Instead of just making a ton of Berserker creatures, they have been able to add Berserker tokens which can be made from Enchantments, Instants, and Sorceries. This means that you could be overwhelmed by a pile of Berserker creatures with no escape.

First up is the card advantage engine that Berserker decks will be looking for. Here is Skemfar Avenger.

Skemfar Avenger

This is the two-drop Berserker you want to have in your deck. It has three power so if it can get in for some damage it does some great work. It allows it so all your other Berserker creatures now have an added ability of drawing you a card when they die. Why not, let’s throw in Elves dying as well. Although there are no Berserkers in Green, there are Changelings and a ton of Elves. This means you could fit this into a Black Green Elf deck as well. It, unfortunately, doesn’t replace itself if it dies, but chances are you will have some other Elves or Berserkers that you are ready to attack with.

Next up is a black Instant looking to fill your battlefield with creatures. Here is Rise of the Dread Marn.

Rise of the Dread Marn

This has the potential to take over a game. First scenario is a combat situation where you attack with two creatures and they trade in combat with two opposing creatures. This leaves you with now four 2/2 Zombie Berserker creature tokens to take over the game. Getting eight power on the board for only three mana (or possibly one mana after Foretell) will cause large headaches for your opponent. Even a one-for-one trade gives you four power on the battlefield. It protects you against sweepers and could be a great sideboard card against control decks. Having this and other Foretell cards will keep your opponent guessing on what you’ve exiled and if they will be giving you a bunch of 2/2 Zombie Berserkers. The downside is having this in your hand on an empty battlefield, but even then, you can Foretell it and wait for the opportunity to arise. Remember that it’s all nontoken creatures that died including your opponents, not just your own.

Finally, a multicoloured Saga looking to take Berserker synergies to the next level. Here is The Bloodsky Massacre.

Once again, another multicolour Saga shines from Kaldheim. Just in Chapter One, you get a 2/3 Demon Berserker token with Menace. This evasion will help with the best value of this card, which is Chapter Two. Just by attacking with the token and any other Berserkers you have you can draw cards and refill your hand. This will get even better if you are able to get some Berserkers out on turn one and two. This includes the two-drop Elf I just talked about, Skemfar Avenger. Magda, Brazen Outlaw, the new Dwarf lord, is also a good two-drop to have in your deck. If they can squeeze in some one-drop Berserkers in Black or Red, you could be drawing three cards from this Saga on turn four. In Chapter Three, any mana you get during this chapter you can use to cast all the Berserkers you just drew during Chapter Two. The overall value of this card is quite high on the floor, with the ceiling value making it an absolute gem.

As you can see, there are going to be some aggressive Berserker decks looking to take you down in short order, so you better be prepared for the aggressive nature of these decks. Thanks again for reading the Daily Dose of Kaldheim. Join me again tomorrow for some more Kaldheim love!
