Bad Brews - Jeskai Infiltrator

Hello and welcome to Bad Brews, where we take the most unplayable rares and try to find them a happy home in a new deck! Since this is our first bad brew, here's what you can expect from Bad Brews: While every pack of Magic: the Gathering comes with at least rare card in it, not all are created equal. Some get left by the wayside, never seeing the light of play. Well, we here at Bad Brews...

Oath of the Gatewatch Pro Tour Predictions

This weekend is Oath of the Gatewatch Pro Tour and it's our chance to see how Modern is shaping up in the pro scene. Since the and bans, we've seen a few tournament results give us a preview of what to expect: 4YourGames MTGCardMarket Star City Games Modern Classics: Columbus, Atlanta Based on those results and some not-so-far-fetched extrapolations, I'll try to predict what we'll be seeing...

Rogue Tech Report: February 2016 Edition

Hello and welcome back to Rogue Tech Report, where quality decks meet creative tomfoolery! Don't look now, but Modern is changing. On one side, we have two top tier decks recently cut out of the format with the and bans, and on the other, we have a very interesting set in Oath of the Gatewatch recently hitting the shelves. I'm using the word "interesting" deliberately, because while we've almost...

A Commanding View of... The Movies?

Welcome back all! This week we're going to do something different. By that, I don't mean neapolitan ice cream compared to vanilla, but rather the ionosphere compared to a field of strawberries. You see, gentle reader, one of my favourite things in the world is movie watching. I likely started as you did, watching the odd Friday night feature with friends and dates but eventually, I got hooked....

My Take on the EDH Banned List

Now that the dust has settled on the banning, I'm going to give my two cents on where the ban list in this format stands, and discuss cards I think that should or shouldn't be banned. Bear in mind that I play both competitive multiplayer and casual, so my issue with some of these cards is not from a particularly polarized point of view. I expect wild disagreements from a couple of my selections....

Going Rogue: Mardu Flagstones

Hello and welcome back to Going Rogue, where winning isn't the goal but it often happens anyway! I don't know about you, but I am sick and tired of getting run over by all these big-mana Tron and Eldrazi decks in Modern these days. Not only did they get a bunch of new powerful cards with recent sets, but the banning of and seems to have opened the door extra-wide for decks that take over at...

Modern Brewing with Oath of the Gatewatch

Oath of the Gatewatch is here, quietly slipping a stack of brew-worthy cards into the Modern format. I say quietly because this set’s release has felt like background noise in contrast to the ban. The disappearance of Modern’s premier blue/red deck will undoubtedly have greater consequences for the format than the dozen or so Oath cards with Modern potential, but I’m still interested in...

Musings of the Madman - Quick Review of Oath of the Gatewatch in Commander

Oath of the Gatewatch is finally among us! It brings a few additions to our decks, but may be slower to adapt into the Commander format by sheer lack of grotesque power or playability (or even adaptation, as was the case with the Theros gods). That said, there are a variety of utility cards therein that may find their way into your decks! Since we’ve already reviewed most of the set’s...
