Commander's Brew Episode 259: Mardu Citadel

This week I've been playing a lot of the Jund Citadel decks in Historic and it's been so much fun that I've been inspired to recreate some of the same neat moves in this week's Commander deck.

Unlike its Historic cousin, this deck uses a lot of damage prevention and redirection as well as the paying life effects like Bolas's Citadel has. So gaining life and preventing the damage in the first place is a real focus here. Stuff like The Wanderer + Command the Dreadhorde can be a devastating combo later in the game. If you really want to get wild, sub in Purity for The Wanderer and watch your life total climb to ungodly heights.

Still, at its core, this deck wants to have Bolas's Citadel and a Woe Strider so that we can cast everything off the top of our deck, get our life total low and then use the scry/sac ability to find something like Resolute Archangel and keep the chain rolling, all the while killing your opponents with classic aristocrats cards like Zulaport Cutthroat. Very fun and very effective!
