Going for the Gold: The Best Archetype in Core 19
Welcome back to Going for the Gold! Last week I kind of left you on a cliffhanger. We went through all of the good commons and uncommons in the set. I showed you why I thought that blue and black were the deepest colours since they had the best commons and uncommons. So, does that mean that UB is the best archetype? Definitely not! UB is very deep, so it can support multiple drafters. Howeverl...

Going for the Gold: Drafting Core 19
Welcome back to Going for the Gold! World Cup Soccer fever is finally over. Now that France has taken the World Cup, I'm back to spending my time focused on Magic and Poker. It's sad to see Dominaria limited become irrelevant. It was one of the best draft formats in a long time. Going from an expansion set that introduced us to new mechanics and cycles of cards back to the basics is...

Looking Towards Pro Tour Dominaria
With the Pro Tour getting ever nearer, this week let's take a look at some of the Big Players in the current Standard. BR Vehicles This has been one of the breakout decks of Dominaria Standard. The deck runs a very high red density to allow for the playing of . It's one of the most powerful cards in the current meta, and is certainly something worth limiting your colours for. This flavour of...

Diving into Dominaria Draft with Arena!
Hey there everyone, I've been writing a lot of articles about Modern for the last while but I wanted to expand my subject matter. I've been having a lot of fun with Magic: the Gathering Arena lately and have decided to take advantage of the fact that the BETA testing non-disclosure agreement period is over. Ever since Arena came out I've basically stopped playing Hearthstone. I still enjoy...

Going for the Gold: Dominaria Standard
Welcome back to Going for the Gold! It's been a while since I've delved into the state of Standard so I figured now was as good a time as any. Of course, with the upcoming Pro Tour and team Grand Prix I would be remiss to share any of my brews. However, I can definitely discuss the current state of the Magic Online metagame, which is usually a great predictor for the upcoming tournaments. It...

Going for the Gold: Team Limited in Columbus (27th)
Welcome back to Going for the Gold! The last weekend of April was the first set of team limited Grand Prix in Dominaria. Either Grand Prix Columbus or Grand Prix Bologna, depending on which side of the world you are on. And it was quite a showing. So many great teams showed up to transform eight Dominaria boosters into three playable limited decks complete with sideboards. Since I haven't played...

Going for the Gold: Dominaria Archetypes
Welcome back to Going for the Gold! I'm actually in the middle of packing for my trip right now, so my attention is split! GP Columbus is this weekend and I've been spending a lot of time in the lab getting ready for this limited format. The format is team sealed instead of solo, so it's slightly different. Team sealed is typically as fast as the draft format, so I found that my time was better...

First Time RPTQ; A Learning Experience
This past weekend was the first opportunity I've had to compete in a Regional Pro Tour Qualifier for Pro Tour Dominaria (Richmond, Virginia). I made my way to Face to Face Games in Toronto on March 31 for six rounds of Rivals of Ixalan Sealed, followed by a Top 8 cut with Draft. My expectations weren't super high as I am a very weak limited player and rarely play Sealed or Draft. This article was...
